Early On
If you were with me towards the end of the 1980’s, I was dazed and confused. I had just arrived back in Sydney after spending many years on the road, sitting at the feet of the masters.
As a young man, after studying Western Philosophy at University, my radar moved to the East, where I spent many years in India investigating Eastern philosophy and practices.
During that time I was exposed to an array of great (and not so great) sages, masters and methods from many different traditions. I was particularly drawn to practicing mindfulness and insight meditation techniques.
Now perhaps not quite sitting in a cave dressed in a saffron sack, shaven headed with ashes on my forehead… but yes literally a serious navel gazer for a long time.
Yet, I obviously had a bit more to learn… as here I was back in Sydney, desperate and dateless as to what to do next… especially around paying the bills and earning a living.
A Little Later
A few years later, I managed to resolve my dilemma about making money with meaning by turning it into a professional career.
I had the good fortune to join one of the first executive coaching consultancies in Australia.
I discovered I can coach, speak and train, and since that time I’ve consulted to organisations across all industries and sectors.
From working in the private and public sectors and everything else in between.
From working with executives of significant organisations, to a chief adviser to a prime minister, to newbie business leaders wanting to make their mark.
Right now
Now, I stand in front of you as the founder of Good Company Coaching which is the culmination of my life experience and work so far.
Now some of you might be thinking… not another ‘coach’.
As someone who has sat with professors, sages and business luminaries, and coached numerous professionals for over twenty five years.
It would be unwitting of me not to have seen more than a few problems and patterns, know what works, what doesn’t and what to do about it.
And, I’m really not that cool, there’s nothing special about me.
As you can imagine it hasn’t all been smooth sailing and there’s been many stops, starts and stumbles along the way.
That’s why I say “The road to relevance is always under construction.”
I am uplifted and sobered, that we are all on the same journey together and sensitivity to both our human frailty and folly, and human potential and profundity is always a humbling and heartening vision.
Be Who You Are Meant To Become®
Guiding and helping others be grounded in actuality and take a punt on possibility has always moved me most.
My core message is that you can live a rich life, enrich the lives of others and leave the legacy you’re meant to leave.
